Centenary
is a part of the
LaMoine
River District of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference of the
United
Methodist Church. This district is formed of the eighty-eight congregations in
the area
bordered by
the Mississippi River on the west and Route 136 on the north. The eastern
boundary
is mainly along route 67 (but also includes other communities such as
Rushville and Carlinville) and Jerseyville to the south. This western curve of
the state has a rich tradition of Methodism with
heritage that includes
spiritual leaders like pioneer circuit rider Peter Cartwright and Peter Akers.
