New Year's
Resolutions With A Spiritual Focus
From a Sermon preached by Rev. Robert Lee Foulk
January 6, 2008
In addition to those resolutions you have made, or might have made, let me suggest some with a spiritual focus:
I will spend 30
minutes each day, at the beginning or the end, in prayer, scripture reading,
meditation and worship
I will be
present each Sunday when communion is served
I will read
through the Bible this year - Begin at Genesis and read through Revelations
Or Purchase and read a One Day With The Bible in your favorite translation
I will pray for
10 people each day
I will ask for
forgiveness from someone I have injured or I will take the initiative to
extend forgiveness to someone
I will share in
words and deeds my love for those around me
I will be find
a quiet place and listen as God speaks to me
I will think
about the cross and what it means to me
I will thank
God each day regardless...regardless....regardless
I will adopt
one person/family/especially a youth in my neighborhood and show love and
care for them
I will find one
place to volunteer that will make a difference in someone’s life
I will not miss
worship
I will join a
Sunday School class
I will join a
Bible Study group
I will listen
to a Christian radio station in my car and in my home
I will listen
to Christian CD's in my car and in my home
I will grow in
Christ
I will become
more like Jesus so people will see more of him in me at the end of this year
than they do today
I will be a
channel of His mercy and grace
I will take
every opportunity to lift Jesus up
I will live for
him
I will measure
all I say and do by what would Jesus have me do
I will hold the
name of Jesus dear in my heart
Make your list. Write it down.
Give a copy to someone with the instruction and permission for them to hold
you accountable for what you have resolved to do this year.
Someone who will look you in the eye and ask you how you are doing
Someone who is not afraid to hold you accountable
Someone who will give you forgiveness for failing and help you get back on
the right track
Someone who will push you to succeed
May 2008 be a year when you resolve. Keep your resolutions and grow in
Christ.
