2010 Program Information
CENTENARY UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The Primary Task of the United Methodist

and participation of women in the total life and mission of the congregation.
2. To keep before the congregation issues related to the status and role of
women in the community, in the denomination, and in the congregation.
3. To make recommendations and suggestions to the church council concerning the
elimination of sexism and sexist attitudes in the congregation.

council program opportunities for worship, fellowship, witness, study, nurture,
and service that will confirm the liberating message of Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities of the Chairperson

Methodist Women of Centenary throughout the year, planning agendas and presiding

of women in all phases of the congregation's life and ministry.
3. To maintain contact with the annual conference commission on the status and
role of women and the district council on ministries.

UMW PURPOSE:

PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus
Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of
mission through participation in the Global Ministries of the church.

MEMBERSHIP:
Our Centenary’s UMW is blessed to have a wide variety of ages
represented in our membership. All women in the Centenary family are
welcome to belong to UMW. Belonging to a circle is encouraged because of
the close fellowship that it provides. However, neither official church
membership nor membership in a circle is required to participate in UMW.
UMW ACTIVITIES
include: our Mother-Daughter Banquet, a Christmas Brunch, Love
visitations, salad luncheons, retreats, funeral dinners, supporting
Cunningham Home and Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House, and
participating in LaMoine District UMW and Illinois Great Rivers
Conference UMW events.
CIRCLES:
Centenary’s UMW has five subgroups called circles. These circles provide
opportunities for fellowship, study, and service. All the circles
welcome new members. Choose the time that best fits your schedule and
contact the circle leader. To join UMW as a member-at-large contact
Debbie Belzer.
-
FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE CIRCLE - meets
in member’s homes at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
They are continuing the “A Cup of Cold Water Ministry” in memory of
Becky Oliver. They are known for their annual Cookie Walk and for
their love of shopping! Their leader is Terri Benz.
-
HOPE CIRCLE - meets on the 3rd
Wednesday evening each month. Christmas Caroling, visiting shut-ins,
doing service projects, sponsoring a Garden Walk, and eating
together are favorite activities. Their leader is Jarice Crenshaw
-
MARY MARTHA CIRCLE
- members enjoy fellowship as they meet on the 4th Tuesday morning
of the month at 9:30 a.m. at Perkins Restaurant. Their leader is Martha Simmons.
-
RUTH CIRCLE -
meets at 1:30 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday in the church parlor (no
meeting July and August). They typically have a program and
refreshments at each meeting. Several members who are now
grandmothers have been members of Ruth Circle since their children
were young. Their leader is Bonita Day.
-
SPIRIT CIRCLE - meets on the
2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at a local restaurant. Children are
welcome. These young women are full of enthusiasm and laughter.
Activities include: a church wide talent night, a wiener roast,
picnic, promoting children’s activities, and helping with floats for
parades. Their leader is Angi Freietag.
