United Methodist Women Committee
MEMBERSHIP: Centenary women of all ages are encouraged to become members of Centenary’s UMW. Official membership in Centenary United Methodist Church is not required to participate in UMW. Membership in a circle is encouraged since it provides a small fellowship group. However, circle membership is not required for UMW membership. Centenary’s UMW sponsors several special activities including Love Visitations, the Mother-Daughter Banquet, and a Christmas Brunch, plus two Salad Luncheons each year.
UMW PURPOSE: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons thorough Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the Global Ministries of the church.
CIRCLES: Centenary’s UMW has five active circles that meet monthly. These small groups provide opportunities for fellowship, study, and service. Some circles don’t meet during the summer and times may vary with special activities. All the circles welcome new members. Choose the time that best fits your schedule and contact the circle leader or Pat Baptist for more information.
HOPE CIRCLE meets in the evening on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Hosting a Health Care meeting, a Garden walk & Christmas Caroling are favorite activities. Leader: Diane Webster
FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE CIRCLE meets in member’s homes at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. They sponsor a Cookie Walk before Christmas. Leader: LuAnne Woodrum
MARY MARTHA CIRCLE meets at 9:30 am on the 4th Tuesday of the month in the church parlor. They are known for their lovely table settings. Leader: Martha Simmons
RUTH CIRCLE meets at 1:30 pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month in the church parlor. This large circle still welcomes new members. Leader: Rene Strubbe
SPIRIT CIRCLE welcomes young women to join this new group, which meets on the 1st Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m. in the church parlor. Children are welcome. They are full of enthusiasm and laughter. Leader: Angi Frietag
The United Methodist Women (UMW) raises funding for various missions, locally and overseas. UMW promotes fellowship for the women of the UM Church- spiritually socially and personally - to develop and grow in their love of Jesus Christ. UMW plans the salad luncheons, Mother/Daughter banquet, funeral dinners, potlucks and bake sales.
The Primary Task of the United Methodist Women - is to strengthen your congregation's commitment and action so that women have the opportunity for full participation in and responsibility for leadership in your congregation and community.
Responsibilities of the United Methodist
Women
1. To keep the church council and congregation aware of
the meaning of the church's continuing commitment to full, equal responsibility
and participation of women in the total life and mission of the congregation.
2. To keep before the congregation issues related to the status and role of
women in the community, in the denomination, and in the congregation.
3. To make recommendations and suggestions to the church council concerning the
elimination of sexism and sexist attitudes in the congregation.
4. In cooperation with United Methodist Women, to recommend to the church
council program opportunities for worship, fellowship, witness, study, nurture,
and service that will confirm the liberating message of Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities of the Chairperson
1. To be responsible for guiding the work of the United
Methodist Women of Centenary throughout the year, planning agendas and presiding
at meetings.
2. To help establish guidelines and policies for recruitment, training, and use
of women in all phases of the congregation's life and ministry.
3. To maintain contact with the annual conference commission on the status and
role of women and the district council on ministries.
4. To take part in the church council and charge conference, representing
concerns about the status and role of women.
5. To be accountable to the charge conference through the church council.
